I LIKE MAKING THINGS.
HERE ARE A FEW OF MY FAVORITES.
THE CREATION DISTRICT
The Creation District is an incubator and a safe haven for creation, discovery, activism, daring, and dream-making for Sacramento’s youth and young adults. Based out of the new 14,000-square-foot Wind Collaborative, the Creation District offers a continuum of daily creative workshops that bring together youth and young adults experiencing homelessness together to tackle the work of building a brighter and braver future. Inside these walls, we believe that life is about creation. It is about trying something bold, breaking the rules, getting messy, making mistakes, and leaving one’s mark on the world.
SPEAK OUT! SACRAMENTO PRODUCTIONS
SPEAK OUT! SACRAMENTO is a grassroots productions group and open mic community in downtown Sacramento. We work to provide safe spaces and opportunities for artists of various disciplines and background to express themselves free and explore their creative voices.
Founded in 2017 under the tree in my backyard, Backyard Broadway is a theatre troupe dedicated to making theatrical participation and consumption more accessible to the community. All shows are fully directed, choreographed, rehearsed, and performed in a backyard setting. Past productions have included Hamilton and Rent!
Based out of a remodeled moving van, Street ARTreach is a fully stocked pop-up art and music studio that visits scattered sites around the Sacramento region to increase artistic accessibility to youth experiencing homelessness and income inequality. Each visit from the Street ARTreach program lasts approximately three hours and includes exploratory Open Studio time, a high quality Creative Workshop led by one of our Spotlight Artists, and a culminating Open Stage session for youth to showcase their creations. CREATION DISTRICT RECORDS
In partnership with local artist Hobo Johnson, Creation District Records is a record label specializing in promoting the voices of youth and young adults experiencing homelessness or economic inequality. Creation District Records sets up a pop up recording studio on the streets, inside shelters, at convenience store break rooms, or wherever else are artists are located. At the end of each session, artists get to leave with a flash drive of their professional recording and have their work published on our Spotify and added to our mixed tape series.
